Part Waiting for Godot, part choose your own adventure, part democracy and part dictatorship, The Colors Interactive Comeback Show is absolute musical mayhem.

The Glass Threshold
The Glass Threshold
Selected for the VCE Drama Studies Playlist 2009
March 19-28th
Machination Theatre Ensemble
“The Glass Threshold” a compelling new ensemble work that draws its inspiration from the classical (Great Expectations- Miss Havisham), the Mythical (Cinderella) and the psychological (Trauma Bonding/Co-dependency) to create a contemporary take on an archetypal coming of age story.
Lily (18) and her mother Augusta (45) live in a cocoon, a butterfly house Augusta has constructed to protect them from the “brutality” of the outside world. When Lily’s cousin Oliver (27) unexpectedly arrives, exposing hidden family secrets, the impact of toxic love explodes in the space as the characters swing wildly between victim and persecutor in a desperate dance of longing. Through fragmented realities and fantasies and a world of past echoes, we watch as Lily matures inside the cocoon. Where is the line between love and control? When does protection become dangerous?
A meditation on emotional blindness and powerplay in familial relationships, “The Glass Threshold” explores the role that fear of abandonment and shame play in identity formation and social behaviour. “The Glass Threshold” is a story of emergence and emotional growth. It explores the difficult rite of passage of the separation that must occur between a young adult and a parent if they are to enter into adulthood. It also has a universal relevance and resonance for anyone who has had to forgive the sins of the past, learn to let go, and embrace an independent future.
Although some scenes will contain text dramaturged by award winning writer Ross Mueller, we have created our own visual performance language which works primarily out of images rather than text. Through the use of Suzuki, Butoh, Viewpoints, configuration mime, symbolic gesture and chorus ensemble, our particular performance style offers a unique experience to Melbourne’s audiences creating a visceral, rather than purely intellectual response.
Themes related to personal empowerment, self image, socialisation, patterns of psychological behaviour, mother/daughter relationships, separation anxiety and growing up are contained within the work.

CASEY BENNETTO
A LARGELY FANCIFUL HISTORY OF THE SPIEGELTENT
The mastermind behind KEATING! The Musical shines a dazzling light into the dark nooks and draughty cracks of the Spiegeltent's past.
Did you know that Marlene Dietrich sang onstage at The Famous Spiegeltent in the 1930s? Of course you did. And the official historians won't let you forget it. Marlene this. Blue Angel that. Falling in love again, and again, and again. You'd think that's all that ever happened in the place! But what of the performers that have unaccountably slipped through the cracks of time? Leila Montesano-Jones, the snake-charming chanteuse, Pierre Courbure, the Human Croissant, Fred Sinatra, Frank's little known, semi-talented half-brother. It's time the record was set straight.
The Famous Spiegeltent shines with wild reflections as Casey Bennetto and friends play host to its many ghosts. Come celebrate The Famous Spiegeltent as its secret history is rediscovered!

From Little Things
'From Little Things…', is tale of wonders, a story of two lovers living in the same country yet inhabiting different worlds. A haunting and layered piece which explores the collision of modernity and the past, home and culture and what it means to be a human, a lover, a son, a daughter, an Australian.
Traversing back and forth in time, us, the audience, is taken on a spellbinding journey, through memories and myths. All brought vividly to life using elements of martial arts, dance, storytelling, music and song. We visit battle fields in ancient China, the gold fields of Bendigo, present-day Melbourne and the many decades in between.
We watch as through re discovering the stories of their ancestors, these lovers weave their disparate lives together to create a new shared history and a deeper understanding of the basic humanity which connects us all. We see them buckle under the weight of history and stand tall in the knowing that it is, From Little Things that big things grow….
'From Little Things…', the inaugural production of the Australasian Chinese Theatre Company. The ACT has a mission to create and produce intrinsically cross-cultural performances with elements borrowed and fused from Australasian/English and Chinese traditions, ancient and modern.

Jonah Klein
Producer/DirectorJonah Klein co-produced the 2007 Cabaret Season at Malthouse Theatre that included an early incarnation of TAKE THE L OUT OF LOVER. This is Jonah's debut as director after a traumatising VCE drama production in 1992 nearly ended any directing aspirations. Jonah trained as an actor at St. Martins Youth Arts Centre and National Theatre Drama School and is currently completing a Masters of Creative Media at RMIT.
Adrian Portell
AccompanistAdrian began his music career at the age of 5, learning to play the keyboard and performing in local shopping centres. Since then he hasn't looked back, completing his Associate Diploma in Piano at the age of 13, performing with various groups including the Frankston Symphony Orchestra, and performing aboard the Royal Princess cruise liner for six months, as it sailed half way around the world. He musically directed his first show - Pippin - when he was 18, and enjoyed it so much he has been coming back time and again to MD productions of Jesus Christ Superstar, Seussical, Into the Woods, City of Angels and Company. He also has a Bachelor of Science degree with Honours in mathematics, and is currently studying to become an actuary, although he still holds dreams of fame and piano playing stardom.
