For a few weeks, Polly cocktail bar didn't have a name. The management were racking their brains trying to come up with something that would suit the rich 1920s inspired interior. Then, one Sunday morning as the staff were cleaning up, the chandeliers began to flicker, and then the bar was in complete darkness. A few minutes later, one candle sprung to life under a mirror which had Polly written on it in deep red lipstick. The bar was then named after the ghost who lives there. Some have seen her sitting on one of the couches, and even stealing a sip of someone's cocktail (her favorite being the one named after her, Miss Polly.) Others have found out a bit about her through research in the Fitzroy library. There was one Polly Jones who lived in the area at the turn of the last century with her husband and two children. Her husband shot her in a fit of rage after he found out about her singing and dancing at a local pub, thinking that she was disgracing his name by working when he was supposed to be the bread winner. It seems that Polly has found her home at 401 Brunswick Street for she is still wants the fame she is after before she was killed. ‑ Of course, some people say the bars name comes from the owner's surname ‑ but that's just a myth.
